NARROW, overgrown footpaths have been given a makeover and a splash of colour to help neighbours feel safe.
Residents of the Kings Farm Estate, Gravesend, felt uneasy when walking along the rundown pavements of Cedar Avenue.
But thanks to Dartford-based environmental charity Groundwork, the walk to their health centre and youth club is now safe and scenic.
During the past 12 months the charity widened the walkway, installed lighting and laid three mosaics designed by children from the estate. Thousands of brightly-painted stones were used to create the images.
Groundwork senior project worker David Evans said: "We hope it adds a colourful feature, making the area more welcoming to everyone."
The charity secured almost £30,000 of funding from Barclays Plc, Communities Against Drugs and SureStart to complete the project.
