DRIVERS are being warned to leave extra time for their journeys while concrete barriers are added to Dartford Crossing's toll booths.
Work on the £1m safety project begins on January 16 and will see barriers added to booths 1 to 12 on the northbound plaza.
Southbound drivers crossing the QE2 Bridge will see the new defences added to booths 22 to 25.
Steel crash cushion barriers will also be added to the approach of each of the tolls. It is hoped the improvements will increase safety for both drivers and staff.
Work will be carried out overnight between 8.30pm and 5am and be completed by March 31.
Highways Agency Dartford Crossing manager Peter Evans said: "Safety is the agency's number one priority. The work will take some time for us to complete so we ask for drivers' patience while we alter the booths."
