SWIMMERS are set for a boost as council bosses prepare to approve plans for a new pool in the borough.
Lewisham Mayor Steve Bullock is likely to give the go-ahead for a new 25m pool at Wavelengths, Giffin Street, Deptford, at a cabinet meeting tonight.
The council wants the pool to ensure swimming provision in Lewisham does not suffer in light of the proposed closure of Ladywell Leisure Centre.
A report carried out by consultants Capita on behalf of the council sets out three options for the new pool: a six-lane 25 metre pool, a four-lane 25 metre pool and teaching pool or a six-lane 25 metre pool and teaching pool.
The report says the latter scheme, which would cost around £4.35m, would provide "the greatest value to the community".
The new pool, which could be ready by Spring 2008, would join the wave pool already at the centre.
