A VISIT to their south London roots has spurred a couple to search for a friend they have not seen for 42 years.

Ron and Ann Meldrum left Greenwich in 1963 to start a new life in Stevenage, Hertfordshire.

Last October, they took a tour of their old haunts and decided to track down former friend Robert Phelps.

The couple and Mr Phelps, who was known as Win, formed part of a group of five rockers and bikers from Greenwich, Woolwich and Lee Green, who went to the Saltbox Cafe in Biggin Hill.

In the early 1960s the friends used to enjoy annual trips to the Isle of Man for the TT motorbike racing.

Mr and Mrs Meldrum, aged 66 and 64, believe Mr Phelps now lives in the Thamesmead area.

Mrs Meldrum said: "It would be great to see him again and catch up on the past 40 years."

She added: "Any help in finding him would be greatly appreciated."
