A CORORNER has recorded an open verdict into the death of a widow found dead near a note and a packet of pills.
Pathologist Dr Michael Heath told an inquest into the death of Rose Mary White her body was too decomposed to tell how she had died.
The 78-year-old retired clerical worker was found dead by her grandson at her home in Garland Road, Plumstead, on October 15 last year.
Southwark Coroner's Court heard relatives became concerned when she had not been seen for more than a week.
Mrs White's son John Smith said his mother "found the burden of life and decision-making a problem" following the death of her husband three years ago.
Investigating officer PC Bernard Lawrence said there was nothing suspicious when he inspected the property after the discovery of Mrs White's body.
Coroner Doreen Lawrence said despite Mrs White's circumstances, the note and the pills, there was not enough evidence to record a verdict of suicide.
