PACKED pavements paid off for pupils who have won a walking competition.
Southborough Primary School was awarded the competition trophy at an assembly at the end of last term.
Eighty-three per cent of its pupils walked to the school in Southborough Lane, Bromley, to win the competition.
Oak Lodge School, Chamberlain Crescent, West Wickham, came second with 80 per cent and Burnt Ash School, Rangefield Road, Bromley, finished third with 74 per cent .
The competition was part of a council scheme to encourage healthy lifestyles and reduce the use of cars.
School travel plan support officer Gill McKeown said: "Walking to school has many benefits, including a stress-free journey and a regular form of exercise for both pupils and parents.
"We hope pupils and parents will make a New Year's resolution to give it a go."
