GRITTING crews worked throughout the holiday period to keep the borough's roads and pavements free of ice.
The team of 11 gritting trucks salted 200 miles of road every day.
Town centre pavements were also salted so shoppers did not slip when looking for bargains.
Executive councillor for the environment George Taylor said: "There was no sleeping off the turkey for our gritting crews.
"Obviously our priority has been to keep major routes free of ice and snow.
"We are pleased with the way the operation has gone.
"However, there is always a limit as to how much we can do, particularly on smaller less busy residential roads."
The 200 miles of road salted included main bus routes, roads leading to hospitals, fire and ambulance stations and hazardous locations such as steep hills.
