COUNCIL bosses have secured £2.8m of funding to pay for transport improvements.
Lewisham Council has been handed the money by Transport for London (TfL), to fund a host of road safety schemes.
More than £1m of the money will be set aside for introducing traffic-calming measures and 20mph zones, in areas including Honor Oak and Sydenham, in response to complaints from concerned residents.
A further £787,000 has been allocated to improving cycle routes and developing schemes to encourage children to take public transport to school.
Money will also be allocated to improve access to Brockley railway station.
Deputy mayor Councillor Gavin Moore said: "We are absolutely committed to improving road safety and creating better road conditions through year-on-year investment in our streets.
"This money will allow us to take forward a number of projects which residents and traders have been asking for."
The £2.8m handout is the largest sum ever given by TfL to Lewisham Council.
