A VAN driver slashed his wrists with a kitchen knife days after he was caught drink-driving, an inquest heard.
David Wilson, 58, wrote off his van in an accident and a breath test at the scene proved positive.
Southwark Coroners' Court heard how days later he was found lying face down in a pool of his own blood at his home in Meadow Close, Catford, on September 23.
A neighbour had called the police who found blood splattered in the hallway and Mr Wilson lying on the floor by his bed.
A large knife was found alongside a half-empty of whiskey bottle in the bathroom.
Mr Wilson had gone through the van's windscreen in the accident.
He had been admitted to hospital but discharged himself the next morning.
His sister, Dora Amos, said she wondered if the accident had anything to do with his death because he was worried he would lose his licence.
Recording a verdict Mr Wilson had taken his own life, coroner John Sampson said the balance of Mr Wilson's mind was disturbed at the time.
