AERONAUTICAL engineering students went back to basics with a schoolboy design to be named Britain's best paper plane flyers.
The Spruce Moose was based on a design learned by 21- year-old Steve Bond when he was a pupil at Langley Park School for Boys, South Eden Park Road, Beckenham.
It flew for almost seven seconds at the competition held at Leeds University last month.
Mr Bond, of The Grove, West Wickham, and his two team mates did not think their design would be successful.
He said: "It's a rubbish design so it's pretty amazing.
"We almost didn't bother going to the competition because we thought we'd get laughed at."
