A MODERN day classroom was transformed into a 1940s' setting as children learned more about life during the war.
Pupils from Deansfield Primary School, Dairsie Road, Eltham, dressed up and spent a day living like evacuees, as part of their history project.
The children, aged 10 and 11, built a bomb shelter in their classrooms, which they had to retreat to when an air raid siren sounded.
They were also issued with a ration book and an identity card and brought their packed lunch into school in 1940s-style paper bags.
Headteacher Ruth Smith said: "The day gave the children an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of what life was like for children of their age during the war."
