SCHOOLS have been doing their bit to beat the bullies by holding events to raise awareness of the problem.

The activities were arranged to mark Anti-Bullying Week, organised by the Anti-Bullying Alliance charity.

At Pickhurst Infant School, Pickhurst Lane, West Wickham, youngsters came to school wearing clothes with circles and spots, to symbolise a circle of friends theme.

The pupils at Hillside Primary School, Dyke Drive, Orpington, had a non-uniform day and wore blue, the anti-bullying colour.

Youngsters at Poverest Primary School, Tillingbourne Green, St Mary Cray, made an anti-bullying quilt and at Glebe School, Hawes Lane, West Wickham, pupils made posters and acted in a drama workshop.

Students at Kelsey Park Sports College, Manor Way, Beckenham, guessed the weight of a giant cake decorated with the ChildLine logo.

Executive councillor for children and young people Graham Arthur said: "It is very encouraging to see young people taking this issue seriously.

"To make the most of their opportunities, children should be free to pursue their education without fear of being bullied."
