TRADERS could face prosecution for selling alcohol to under-18s as part of a council crackdown.

Two 15-year-old volunteers were able to buy alcohol from five out of the 14 off-licences and supermarkets they visited last Saturday.

They went into the shops in Bromley, Hayes and West Wickham as part of a joint operation run by the council's trading standards team and the police.

The operation was part of an ongoing campaign to monitor the purchase of age-restricted goods to under-age residents and reduce the potential for anti-social behaviour.

Executive councillor for the environment George Taylor said: "Traders should never ignore the law.

"We will continue to take action to protect consumers and the wider community."
