A ROYAL British Legion member finally received recognition for his work four months after the London bombings postponed an awards ceremony.
Orpington branch chairman Geoffrey Haisell, 74, was supposed to have been given the award for making an outstanding contribution to London life by Mayor Ken Livingstone on July 14.
However, it was postponed because the Mayor had to attend a vigil for victims of the previous week's terrorist attacks.
It was finally given to Mr Haisell by Orpington branch president Alan Clarke last month.
Mr Haisell said: "It's quite an honour and I'm proud to receive something like this."
"I only did what I thought was right as a member of the community and the British Legion."
Mr Haisell has been the chairman for 13 years and was the standard bearer for the Orpington branch from 1979 until earlier this year.
