BUDDING environmentalists have been rewarded for their efforts to cut waste.
Pupils at St Joseph's Primary School, Commerell Street, Greenwich, have won Greenwich Council's first ever Eco-warrior award.
For the past year the school has run a weekly competition to see which classes produce the most waste.
The classes are then set targets on cutting waste which they try to meet by using more scrap paper and reusing other materials.
Children also take part in regular litter-picks in their playground and are encouraged to turn off any lights which are not being used.
Teaching assistant Kay Bird said: "The project has helped the children become more aware of the importance of reusing things."
