IT WAS an afternoon of celebrations as a primary school celebrated its new premises.
Upland Primary School, Church Road, Bexleyheath, now enjoys a state-of-the-art sustainable building after putting behind it the problems of combining of the former junior and infant schools in the face of fierce opposition from parents.
But is was all smiles last Friday as the whole school enjoyed an opening party, with building firm Wilmott Dixon providing a cake big enough for the whole school to have a slice.
School governor Dr Julia Matthews, had the honour of cutting the cake, while Bexley's mayor Councillor John Shepheard performed the opening ceremony.
The £4m building will house 420 pupils aged from five to 11 and has a range of eco-friendly features including using recycled water, roof windows to maximise light and solar panels to reduce electricity costs.
