A SHOP was fined £200 after selling alcohol to an underage drinker.
Abbey Wood Village Store pleaded guilty to selling alcohol to a 16-year-old girl at Woolwich Magistrates' Court last week.
The store in Wilton Road sold a bottle of lime Bacardi Breezer without questioning the underage girl during an undercover operation by Greenwich Council and the police.
The operation was set up in Abbey Wood earlier this year following complaints from residents who were concerned young people were buying alcohol in the shops.
Cabinet member for community safety and enforcement Councillor Rajwant Sidhu said: "I am disappointed this store chose to flout the law and am pleased they have been brought to task.
"This store had been advised by the police and the council on the laws banning the sale of alcohol to young people.
Licensee Manh Nguyen was ordered to pay a £200 fine and costs of £100 on November 21.
The joint licensee of the same store failed to appear and is due again in court on December 12.
