AS THE frost gets thicker and the snow threatens, spare a thought for Kevin Tracey.

While everyone else is pulling on thermal underwear and woolly tights, Mr Tracey, 43, from Halcot Avenue, Bexleyheath, will be in his shorts.

Mr Tracey, a cable runner, has chosen the coldest winter for years to embark on a fundraising effort.

The father-of-three has vowed to wear shorts every day until April 1 next year, to raise money for the liver centre at King's College Hospital in Denmark Hill.

Although he only started his marathon fundraiser two weeks ago, workmates at Batt Cables, Fraser Road, Erith, have already pledged more than £1,000 in sponsorship.

Mr Tracey's youngest son Michael, aged 14 months, was born with a variety of serious health problems and has been treated at the King's College liver centre since birth.

Michael's health is now gradually improving but Mr Tracey says visiting the centre regularly opened his eyes to what hospitals have to deal with.

He said: "I have never done anything like this before.

"But after visiting the centre, I just wanted to do it."

Despite working in unheated open-ended warehouses every day, Mr Tracey says he is 100-per-cent committed to his task.

He added: "I have been wearing shorts all through the summer and I knew a cold winter was predicted when I decided to do it.

"If it snows, I will just carry on. I'll eat lots and keep busy to keep myself warm."
