RESIDENTS have had the chance to quiz top bosses about the state of public transport on offer in Bexley.

The seminar was organised by Bexley Council, which invited residents and representatives of groups in the borough to raise any complaints they had.

Visitors also got the chance to make suggestions about the borough's transport services.

To begin with, residents were given presentations by a variety of transport organisations.

These included South Eastern Trains, Transport for London's London Buses, Crossrail and London Travelwatch.

The presentations looked at key projects and operational issues.

Then residents, business people and councillors got the chance to air their concerns.

Among the issues raised was the cost of buying an Oyster card, especially in Bexley where there is no Tube service, and the difficulty of buying one locally.

The reliability of bus services and proposed changes to services were also mentioned, along with problems faced by disabled people trying to access railway stations.

There were also requests for more information about the loop line train service between Sidcup and Abbey Wood via Bexley and Belvedere.

The seminar also heard lots of requests for the early completion of three major rail schemes which could open up travel for people in the borough Crossrail, Thameslink 2000 and a direct Sidcup-to- Clapham service.

Bexley Council cabinet member for transport Councillor Daniel Francis said the event was such a success he hoped it would become an annual event.
