SIX people from Bexley were among 14 who appeared in court on Monday accused of being part of a stolen car ring.

The 14 were arrested following an investigation by New Scotland Yard's stolen vehicle unit into alleged fraud and theft of a large number of vehicles.

It is alleged they tried to defraud people buying second-hand cars by creating false histories for stolen vehicles.

This was done by obtaining vehicle identification numbers from foreign salvage vehicles, creating false identification numbers and using genuine numbers from cars in the USA.

The DVLA was then told the vehicles were genuine imports into the UK.

It is claimed the gang used the false identifications to disguise stolen cars and offer them for sale as genuine second-hand cars.
