A COUNCIL has been nominated for a national award as praise for "valuing" its citizens.
Greenwich Council has been shortlisted in the valuing people category in the annual Beacon awards.
The judging panel praised the council's efforts to make facilities such as leisure centres and libraries more accessible to people with learning difficulties.
Council leader Councillor Chris Roberts said: "We are proud of the efforts we have made to make sure we listen to people with learning disabilities.
"Being shortlisted is recognition for all the hard work of our staff."
Greenwich has also been nominated for a second Beacon award, in the waste and recycling category.
Beacon status is a national standard awarded by the Government to authorities which innovate and lead the way in a particular policy area.
Greenwich will find out if it has won the two Beacon awards in March next year.
