ENTHUSIASTS learnt about the history of a bird reserve which originated from clay diggings as part of the cement industry.
Around 150 people enjoyed the Cliffe's Industrial Heritage tour at the Cliffe Pools RSPB reserve.
They heard about the hidden history of Cliffe.
This included stories about wells, lime-kilns, canals and railway lines.
Cliffe Pools is famous for the bird life which has colonised the marshland and pools created by deserted clay pits.
Warden Michael Ellison said: "The community is essential to the history of Cliffe Pools, most recently in the successful fight against the airport threat."
