A DRIVER and his passenger had a lucky escape after their car was crushed between two lorries in the Dartford Tunnel.
Fire crews were called out at 9.38am after a Vauxhall car became sandwiched between two articulated lorries as it travelled through the centre of the tunnel towards Essex.
The driver was not injured, but his 40-year-old female passenger was treated for head and suspected spinal injuries and later taken to an Essex hospital.
The woman was pulled from the wreckage after fire crews from Essex and Dartford cut off the roof of the car after the incident on November 21.
A spokesman for Dartford fire station said: "The bonnet of the car was actually wedged underneath the front lorry like a slice of cheese and the lorry doors were touching the windscreen.
"It could have been much worse, but luckily both airbags were deployed and both victims were wearing seat belts."
