GOING FOR GOLD: Trainee hacks are giving News Shopper journalists a run for their money. Smiths, the student union magazine at Goldsmiths University, New Cross, won the student publication design of the year prize at this year's Guardian newspaper Student Media Awards, held on November 2.
FESTIVE FUN: The Christmas lights in Eltham High Street will be switched on tomorrow, during an entertainment-packed ceremony. The evening will feature a performance from reality TV stars 4th Base, from ITV's X Factor, and a festive parade. The fun starts at 4pm.
CHARITY CONCERT: A Christmas concert is being held to raise money for Save the Children. The concert, featuring the Old Royal Naval College Chapel Choir, takes place on December 4, from 7pm, at Blackheath Halls, Lee Road, Blackheath. Call the box office on 020 8463 0100.
CREATIVE CLOTH: The Blackheath Textile Artists group is holding an exhibition. The showcase runs until December 3, on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, at Blackheath Library, Blackheath Grove, Blackheath.
