A DRIVER who knocked down and killed a father as he crossed the road has escaped jail.
An Audi car being driven by Harvinder Singh hit 45-year-old Anrouth Singh, in Ha Ha Road, Woolwich, on March 8 this year.
Father-of-one Anrouth Singh, of Elmley Street, Plumstead, was taken to hospital where he later died from multiple injuries.
Harvinder Singh, of Dairsie Road, Eltham, pleaded not guilty to causing death by dangerous driving but admitted careless driving.
The 32-year-old was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay a further £500 in costs, at Woolwich Crown Court, on November 15.
He was also banned from driving for six months and had his licence endorsed.
