COMIC opera Iolanthe was first performed in 1882. But Gilbert and Sullivan's satire about reforming the House of Lords is still a topical subject today. Iolanthe is a romantic comedy revolving around a battle of wits and wills between the Kingdom of Fairies and the House of Lords.
The operetta is being staged at Blackheath Halls next week by the Centenary Company, created in 1995 to mark Blackheath's 100th anniversary celebrations. The company promises a sparkling new production, featuring fairies with attitude'.
