A MAN with a muscle-wasting disease is set to receive a medal in recognition of his voluntary work at a youth centre.
Richard Gough, 23, has been a member of the Sidcup Youth Centre team for two years and was nominated for the award by staff.
The award is part of the Year of the Volunteer celebrations, a Government scheme to encourage active citizenship.
Mr Gough undertakes a wide range of duties, from administration to working with centre members, despite having myotonic dystrophy and moderate learning difficulties.
Youth worker Elaine Dowdy said: "Richard is here every week without fail.
"We are all really pleased his voluntary work has been recognised in this way. I hope he will be with us for a long time to come."
Mr Gough thanked staff and described his work with children and the centre as "really enjoyable".
He will be officially presented with his medal at a ceremony at the centre later this year.
