HUNDREDS of young and old people joined forces to pay tribute to the nation's war heroes.
Events took place in Lewisham and Greenwich at the weekend to mark Remembrance Sunday.
The National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, provided the starting point for a semaphore message which was sent up the River Thames.
The message, which was decrypted at Whitehall, read: "War turns us to stone. In remembrance we shine and rise to new days."
Elsewhere on Sunday war veterans marched up Eltham High Street, before taking part in a wreath-laying ceremony at Eltham war memorial.
Mayor Steve Bullock paid his respects during a ceremony at Lewisham's High Street war memorial.
The Blackheath Choir also put on a joint concert with the Hugo Diesler Choir from Berlin, at Blackheath Halls, Lee Road, Blackheath.
