COUNCIL bosses have secured £4m of Government funding to pay for the transformation of a train station.
The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister has agreed to contribute the money towards the redevelopment of Deptford station, which will include shops and a public piazza.
The development will see the existing building knocked down and replaced with a more modern structure.
The new building, designed by architects Brown and Pletts, will be transparent and made mainly from glass.
Lewisham deputy mayor Councillor Gavin Moore says the new station will be "a more accessible and welcoming environment".
The council says a decision on which developer will carry out the work will be made by the end of the year.
