THE authority which manages a 95-mile-long tidal portion of the Thames has won an environmental award.
The Port of London Authority (PLA), the body which manages and maintains services for ships using the Port of London, has been awarded the EcoPorts Port Environmental Review System certificate.
The certificate, which was awarded at a meeting held at the PLA offices in Gravesend, shows an authority is meeting the European environmental standards set by the European Sea Ports Organisation.
Steps taken by the PLA to achieve its award include displaying a publicly- available environmental policy, setting environmental targets and making sure it complies with all domestic, European and international environmental rules and legislation.
