FIRST aid volunteers hoping to join ambulance crews put their training into action at a practice day.
The British Red Cross, Pelham Road, Gravesend, held the event for volunteers.
Around a dozen trainees took part in the exercise, which saw them reacting to the real-life situations they could find themselves in as part of ambulance crews.
Volunteers faked heart attacks, spinal injuries and strokes as the trainees sprang into action and began diagnosing, treating and loading their victims into ambulances.
The training exercises make up part of a six-month programme, which trains volunteers as British Red Cross ambulance personnel to a national standard and is accredited by the Institute of Health Care Development.
Joint centre manager Ann Holland said: "It went well and everyone enjoyed themselves.
"The trainees are about half way into the course and we're pleased with their progress."
