WORK has begun on a new wildlife and pond area for schoolchildren and residents.
The team behind the project at Sweyne Junior School, Keary Road, Swanscombe, is being led by Land Securities, the company which is behind the multi-million pound Eastern Quarry development.
Other contributing businesses include J Clubb, Conservationworks, Hewdens, Co-op and GlaxoSmithKline.
The majority of costs are being covered by Land Securities, which has donated £4,953 from its community fund to the project, which is expected to be finished in Spring next year.
Spokesman Suzanne Kemmenoe said: "We are really pleased the school and the community will benefit from this new wildlife haven."
The finished pond and surrounding area will be enjoyed by the school's 285 pupils, as well as other nearby schools, Brownies, Cubs and residents.
