STAFF are celebrating after securing a grant to help safeguard a collection of archives.
Bexley's Local Studies and Archive Centre received a grant of £1,100 from the Archives, Libraries and Museums, London a charity which supports and promotes the capital's archives and museums.
The grant will be used to buy new environmental monitoring equipment for the archive stores at the Central Library, Bexleyheath, and at a storage centre in Crayford.
The equipment will enable staff to measure temperature, humidity and lighting levels at both sites and maintain the best conditions for the preservation of the borough's archives, which date back to the 14th Century.
The grant covers 75 per cent of the equipment costs, with the remainder met by the council.
