NEIGHBOURS of one school could have been forgiven a second look when they spotted a giant rocket ready for take-off on the playing field.
But they were not seeing things.
The largest rocket ever launched from the UK mainland was sitting on the field at Cleeve Park School, Bexley Lane, Sidcup.
The Nova/Starchaser 4 and a team from the Starchaser company which built it were on a visit to the school to tell pupils all about the project and its aims.
Cleeve Park is a specialist engineering school and the visit was part of its aim to raise the profile of science and technology-based subjects by capturing the imagination of students.
Children from nearby Birkbeck and Royal Park primary schools were also invited.
The rocket, which stands 13m high, was successfully launched from Morecombe Bay in November 2002, to test various technical systems.
