YOUNGSTERS planted trees to remember the history of their school as they moved into a modern 21st-century building.
The children of Orchard Primary School, Sidcup, planted apple trees at the official opening of their new school building to regrow part of the orchard which once stood there.
The £3m school, in Oxford Road, replaces an Edwardian building and has a grass roof, which improves sound and heat insulation.
Photovoltaic systems will turn daylight into electricity for the school's 175 pupils, saving money on fuel bills and helping the environment.
Headteacher Andrew Hogarth said: "The new building is a joy but despite the revolutionary design, I am more than pleased to see it works effectively as a school."
