London Transport and Sainsbury's have pressed ahead with their plans to scrap the weekday shopping bus from stores at East Dulwich and Streatham Common.
The Saturday-only route P15 made its first journey last week.
It replaces routes S11 and S13, in spite of a long residents' campaign to retain the weekday routes.
The new service will run every half hour between about 8.30am and 4.30pm, with an hour's gap at lunch time.
A spokesman said: "The decision was made after a long consultation period which showed the service to be under-used.
"Saturday was always the most popular day so we have responded to consumer demand."
