SHOPPERS stocked up on Christmas presents at a church craft fair boasting more than 50 stalls.

St Barnabas Church, Istead Rise, held its sixth annual craft market to raise funds.

More than 450 visitors could choose from jewellery, paintings, home-made cards, quilting, cakes, preserves and Christmas goods.

A second-hand bookstall introduced last year made a comeback as it proved so popular.

Charities also had stalls at the fair in the Community Centre, Worcester Close.

A total of £1,500 was raised. Some of the money will go towards paying loans used to build St Barnabas' new church building, which is now open.

Joint organiser Linda Stringer said: "It's quite big, we usually have about 50 stalls. It's grown over the past six years."
