More than 85,000 spectators visited the extravaganza to catch glimpses of aircraft from the past and present.

Highlights of the weekend included a First World War and Battle of Britain display as well as a replica flight of the Bleriot plane which first flew the English Channel.

The American Stealth bomber also made an appearance after flying from its base in Suffolk. There was also a display by the world-famous Red Arrows team as well as parachute jumps and ground exhibitions.

The air show has been a regular fixture in the aviation calendar for more than three decades and many thought this year's the best yet.

Spectator Colin Edwards said: "It was a brilliant day and went extremely well. There was a lot to take in but I think the most impressive sights were the Spitfire fly-by and the Second World War B17 bomber."

Another spectator, Frank McCourt, who attended with his two children, said: "I've been coming here for the past five years and it was definitely the best yet. It was like something out of Top Gun, especially when the Jaguars roared past. The kids had a thrilling time and had to put their hands on their ears as the jets went by."

A spokesman for the show organisers said: "The show has a different theme each year but this one was a bit special because it celebrated 100 years of flight."
