While I was born and am living in England, I find the sight of the "hooligan flag" detestable and I am amazed that people want to fly it.
Having said that, my experience is that many of those people who make an issue about wanting to see the flag flown, do hold the appropriate nationalist views - especially about what to do with immigrants.
What I find truly amazing, is that a flag with such dubious connections is being flown from the tops of churches in this country.
For me, the last thing the flag of England represents is tolerance.
Perhaps we should take a lead from the English Tourist Board and focus on the rose of England as a less contentious symbol for this country and its true values.
