ATHLETICS: A total of seven athletes from Woodford Green Athletic Club with Essex Ladies were in brilliant form at the weekend to take gold medals in national and international competitions.

The Amateur Athletic Association Championships at Sheffield saw sprinter Monu Miah add to his impressive tally of golds this season by winning the under-17 200m in a lightning 21.45sec.

New club member Andrae Davis took the under-15s shot with a fine throw of 16.11m.

There was disappointment for Chris Reynolds, however, as he finished back in the pack in the 1500m.

Reynolds, who won the title on his way to a clean sweep of every major honour last year, said: 'I had a bad race and I don't know what went wrong. Everyone went past me with 200m to go which was pretty demoralising because I'm normally known for my sprint finish.

'Now I'm just looking forward to next season. I'm going to step up my training and hopefully I'll fly.'

Meanwhile, a trio of Essex Ladies stole the show at the Fila International Development meeting at Loughborough.

Tracey Duncan set a new meeting record of 58min 43sec in the 400m hurdles, Jenny Stoute won the 300m in 37.59m and Michelle Dunkley won the high jump 1.85m.

Woodford's decathlon stars, coached by Ian Grant, won their respective events at the AAA Decathlon Championships. Anthony Sawyer took the under-23s with 6680 points and James Wright the under-20s with 6007 points.
