Oldham Curzon 2 - Wimbledon WFC 1 (Abandoned)

Torrential rain forced the abandonment of Wimbledon's first round game against Oldham Curzon in the AXA FA Women's League Cup on Sunday, writes Jo Halpin.

With 15 minutes of the game remaining - and with Wimbledon trailing 2-1 - the referee declared the pitch unplayable.

"It had been raining for about an hour before the game, but the pitch is quite good," said Dons general secretary, Clare Broughton.

"Then about 10 minutes into the second half it just bucketed down - you couldn't even kick the ball. It was going nowhere."

Wimbledon will return to Oldham this Sunday for the replay and their scheduled league game against Cardiff has been postponed.

It will be an expensive exercise for the club, which is without a sponsor.

For a second time, the team will travel to Oldham in a hired minibus on Saturday and stay in bed and breakfast accommodation before playing on Sunday.

Costs

The costs for a team of 14 and their support staff soon mount up.

From the League Cup semi-final onwards, the FA provides an accommodation allowance of £150 per team for matches requiring a round trip of 325 miles or more.

It also pays a mileage allowance (after the first 100 miles) of 50 pence per mile.

Reimbursement of expenses in rounds prior to the semi-final are at the discretion of the FA management committee.
