November 15, 2000 9:43: Transfer-listed Clinton Morrison grabbed a brace as Alan Smiths men maintained their splendid form with a 3-1 win at Wolves, writes Gordon Law.
But the victory was slightly soured bythe news that striker Dougie Freedman could be in trouble over an alleged stamping incident which resulted in Wolves Pollet leaving the field with blood pouring from an eye injury.
It was Freedman who had opened the scoring in the 23rd minute against one of his old clubs when he received a pass from Tommy Black, made space and struck the ball past Wolves keeper Scott Oakes.
Morrison doubled the lead for the Eagles on 44 minutes when he turned away from his marker in the six-yard box to fire home his fifth goal in four games.
Michael Branch gave Wolves some hope when he pulled one back on 59 minutes, after a good run by former Eagle George Ndah. But Morrison made the game safe after a mistake by Wolves Kevin Muscat.
Palace have now taken seven points from their last three games and boss Alan Smith said he knew how the Wolves fans were feeling as they staged a protest outside the ground after the game, saying: It happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Its the way football is going at the moment because theres so much at stake.
Nobody has a divine right to win but I thought we played well against Wolves and deserved to win.
I have tried to turn things round by giving my players their belief back and it looks like its working.
The Eagles play Tranmere Rovers at Selhurst Park this Saturday at 3pm
