February 19, 2001 15:08: Reports in a Norwegian newspaper have linked prolific striker Erik Nevland with Palace.
Alan Smith has reportedly made contact with Viking Stavanger about the availability of Nevland who spent the early part of his career with Manchester United where he was blighted by serious injury. But in an interview with the Stavanger Aftenblad newspaper, Nevlands says that, although he is interested in coming to South London, he is worried about the club's "bad economy".
Speculation has also been rife over the weekend that Smith is lining up Nevland's Viking Stavanger colleague Hannu Tihinen. The Finnish centre-back's loan spell with West Ham comes to a close this week.
Meanwhile, Clinton Morrison is due to meet with representatives of Jamaica's national side tonight (Monday) as they aim to make him a reggae boys' regular.
