What a laugh. Reopening Pinner Police Station for three hours a week.

Are we supposed to be grateful? ( 'Police station reopens for three hours a week', Times, July 19).

I read the article in increasing disbelief, which turned to amusement and finally anger.

Could someone please tell me what the point of opening a police station for three hours one afternoon a week is?

What am I supposed to do if I am mugged on Thursday morning, wait outside the station for six days until a copper opens the door with a friendly 'ello, ello, ello, how can I help you madam?'

Should I ask the mugger to wait as well? Do you think he might?

Perhaps he might be too busy about his unlawful business to spare the time but maybe he could return the following week.

I'm impressed with the monitoring though. That log should make fascinating reading.

At the end of a month or so, I suspect the log will be completely empty because no one will remember exactly when the station is open and go elsewhere.

So, voila! the police's point is proved, no one came in therefore no one needs an accessible police station.

Perhaps the 999 telephone service will also be available only a few hours a week.

Then reporting of crime will drop, crime figures will drop, the police and government will look good and everyone will be happy.
