Dulwich Hamlet manager Gwynne Berry has signed nine new players in preparation for the new season.

Among the players who have so far signed are Michael Banks, Ryan Gray, Nick Leach, Al-James Hannigan and Luke Edghill, and Berry hopes to have secured more signatures over the next week.

He said: Its my job to whittle the squad down to where I want it. The backbone must be there.

I am getting there in terms of the players I want, now its all about adding the finishing touches.

Berry says he will continue to play, but only in a bit-part capacity.

I havent retired, he said. If I feel I need to play then I will. But it will only be for one game a week. At my age the body cant take two games any more.

Berry was not too upset by St Leonards decision to call off their arranged pre-season game.

The Dr Martens Premier Division side cancelled the fixture after claiming their Firs Road pitch was not ready for football.

It was disappointing not to have played, said Berry.

But we more than made up for it by having the players in for training. They worked hard and we got a lot done.

My main aim is to get the players ready for our league fixtures.

Berry says he will take the first half of the season in three stages as he aims to take Dulwich Hamlet back into the Ryman League Premier Division.

The first month will be about trying to get off to a good start, he said. Then, after about six to eight weeks, it will be about consolidation.

I will see where we are at Christmas and re-assess the situation from there.
