A SERVICE of thanksgiving was held to celebrate the construction of new rooms for voluntary groups.
The Millennium Rooms, at the back of Saint Luke's Church, in Bromley Common, Bromley, were built to encourage more community activities, as well as providing a centre for carers.
During the service, the church's former curate Hilda Heselwood, who was involved in the Millennium project in its early stages, dedicated the rooms to God.
The Millennium Appeal was launched in October 1999 to raise £80,000, which was needed to finance the construction.
In September 2000, the Millennium project was awarded a £60,000 National Lottery grant to construct a large room in the north arcades and an upper room on the south side.
An illuminated corner was included in the design to enclose the Second World War memorial and the new Book of Remembrance.
