YOUNG people in Bromley will be able to to get more involved in the community when a group is launched on Saturday.

The Bromley Youth Council aims to get young peoples' voices heard on issues affecting them. Its launch will be marked by a day of activities to encourage 13 to 19 year olds to get involved.

Events will include guest speakers, workshops, an MC competition and stalls with information for young people. The day will round off with a session for teenagers to talk about issues close to them.

Bromley Council's planning and communication manager Mike Carney said: "The group is being organised by young people with support from youth workers, so it's an organisation by and for them."

He added the next stage is to have more events for young people.

"We hope to get them involved in the local democratic process."

The council was set up jointly by the Bromley Youth Agency, Youth Action 2000 and Bromley Council.

The event will be in the Great Hall, at the Civic Centre.
