The gentle delights of light music can be re-discovered by musicians, amateur and professional, at a five-hour course in Wimbledon on November 18 when Keith Stent, conductor of the Wandsworth Symphony Orchestra, directs study sessions on the Palm Court, the Winter Garden, the Bandstand and the BBC's old Light Programme.
Mr Stent, a former teacher and conductor at Trinity College of Music, will be drawing on his earlier experiences of playing in orchestras at south coast holiday resorts and in London parks. He has been running his popular series of courses in the south of England since 1998.
The event, open to anyone who can play an instrument, is at St Mark's Hall, Compton Road, Wimbledon, from 1.30pm to 6.30pm and costs £12, including refreshments.
