After four weeks of action in the Malden & District Darts League's winter season, last year's champions Spring A Leek head the table by nine points, writes Rick Hemmings.

Spring A Leek who play out of the County Staff Club, in Kingston have dropped just one point in the last three weeks.

However, they did have a fright on the opening night of the season when newly-formed Chessington Cricket Club A took them to the wire leading 7-5, before being pegged back for a 7-7 draw.

Closest to the top team are the only two sides with a 100 per cent match-winning record the Norbiton Gremlins and Chessington CC B, who are due to play each other this week.

The Raynes Park Raiders, The Ferrets and The Fountain have so far found the going rather hard, but have now played the top sides and can look forward to improving their positions soon.

Neil Webb, playing for Chessington & Hook FC, achieved a remarkable feat last week hitting his third 180 in consecutive matches. He also leads the highest game shot table with 110.

Spring A Leek's Lionel Sams started the season strongly, hitting two game shots and six tons in each of his first two games.

He shares the lead in the most tons table' with teammate Gary Smyth and Dick Farr of the Arbre Royale. They have all hit the three figure target 16 times.

A player who managed to bust that figure when he had 100 left against the Ferrets is Fred Simmons, of Chessington CC B.

However, Fred has some consolation in that he leads the most game shots section with eight.

He is joined by teammate George Matkin and Jim Crumlish, of Spring A Leek, who also average two game shots per match to date.
