Greenwich: The Greenwich branch of Islamic political group Al-Muhajiroun says its members have not joined British Muslims fighting for the Taliban in Afghanistan.
The group's leader Usman Ali says he has no knowledge of any Muslim from Greenwich or Lewisham fighting for the Taliban in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Earlier this month, Al-Muhajiroun leader Hassan Butt, 21, from Manchester, travelled to Pakistan to support the Taliban.
He claimed there are more than 600 other Britons in the region backing the regime.
Mr Butt said he and other British Muslims would have no qualms about killing British soldiers if they were deployed in Afghanistan.
Mr Ali, who met with Mr Butt earlier this year, said Al-Muhajiroun is a political party which seeks change through political means.
He said the main aim of Al-Muhajiroun at the moment is raising awareness of what is happening in Afganistan and trying to raise funds for the victims of the war. If you would like to help, call Islamic Relief on 0870 444 3132.
